Synopsis
In The System with Joe Berlinger, Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Paradise Lost Trilogy) will explore controversial cases and explore the farthest reaches of the American justice system, asking whether justice is being served. Focusing on various layers of the system, each episode will explore controversial cases – carried out by or impacting prosecutors, citizens, police officers, and businesses, among others – to see whether the vaunted system of US justice has failed or triumphed. And with many aspects of the system in this country currently being debated – a court system ground to halt in many jurisdictions, the highest rates of incarceration in the world, drug laws being hotly criticized and reformed, claims of institutional racial bias, only to name a few – the public is ready to engage in a national conversation about American criminal justice.
