Brian Oakes is a director and motion-graphics designer celebrated for his visually dynamic and emotionally resonant storytelling.

With a background in graphic design, Brian seamlessly blends cinematic craft with purposeful design, creating work that is both visually dynamic and narratively powerful.

His directorial debut, Jim: The James Foley Story , premiered at Sundance, won the Audience Award, and earned an Oscar nomination. He has since helmed episodes of Netflix’s Abstract: The Art of Design  and Marvel 616 , and co-directed HBO’s Living with Lincoln . His work spans film, television, and commercial campaigns for brands and platforms like HBO, ESPN, Comedy Central, and IBM.

Brian brings a designer’s precision and a documentarians heart to every project—balancing beauty, truth, and clarity in equal measure.
